PRAKASH KARAT CONDOLES DEATH OF PAPPA UMANATH

The CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat has sent the following condolence message on the demise of Comrade Pappa Umanath on December 17, 2010

We are deeply grieved to hear the news of the passing away of Pappa Umanath today. Pappa Umanath was an outstanding leader of the Communist movement in Tamilnadu and who played a pioneering role in developing the women's movement. From a young age she plunged into the working class movement. She was also a champion of the working people when she served as a legislator in Tamilnadu.

Pappa Umanath's death is a great loss to the Party and the Left. I convey my heartfelt condolences to her husband R Umanath and her daughters, U Vasuki and Nirmala Rani and other family members.
