WB ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS-2011

ELECT WB LEFT FRONT GOVERNMENT FOR 8TH SUCCESSIVE TERM

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

SO-CALLED HUMAN RIGHT ORGANISATIONS ARE VERY MUCH APPREHENSIVE AND WORRIED FOR THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF THE MAOIST BUTCHERS IN INDIA

Arundhati Roy, Mahasweta Devi, Medha Patkar, Human Right Organisationss and other intellectuals sharing same opinion and boat are very much apprehensive and worried for the safety and security of the Maoists India. Arundhati Roy has, therefore, initiated a mass petition on 12th October 2009 to the Prime Minister of India urging him to stop offensive against the Maoists. She has obtained the signatures of Noam Chomsky and other renowned persons within the country and abroad to make the petition more acceptable, significant and weighty.

These intellectuals and human right activists had played an important role during Nandigram and Singur episodes to extend moral and logical support to the Maoists and the rainbow alliance. They had unleashed widespread campaign throughout the world and organised processions, rallies, meetings, mass signature and so on against the unfortunate death of 14 persons in Nandigram resulting from police firing. Many of them had directly or indirectly worked actively for the victory of Maoist and Mamata Banerjee supported Congress-TMC-SUCI candidates in West Bengal in the last Parliamentary elections held in May 2009 making the Nandigram episode as one of the important election issues.

Despite this, they all along pretend to be impartial, neutral and non-political.

The Maoist-TMC-Congress-SUCI butchers have murdered brutally hundreds of CPI (M) and other Leftist leaders, cadres and supporters in West Bengal. But these intellectuals and human right activists are maintaining complete silence. It appears, they think that only the Maoists are human beings. According to them, except the Maoists, none in the country can have any human rights and the murder of hundreds of CPI (M) people by Maoists is, therefore, just and a need. So, they have not yet uttered even a single word to condemn the crimes of the Maoists.

Every murder is unfortunate and condemnable. Had this group of intellectuals and human right activists played an impartial role and stopped lending moral and logical support to the Maoist butchers, the unfortunate deaths at Nandigram and other parts of the country could have been avoided easily. But the fact was that Mamata Banerjee and her rainbow alliance needed some dead bodies for winning the parliamentary elections in West Bengal and accordingly the intellectuals and human rights activists presented the same to her in time.

LIST OF CPI (M) WORKERS MURDERED BY MAOIST-TMC-CONGRESS-SUCI BUTCHERS AND RAPISTS IN WEST BENGAL FROM 01-12-2009 TO 20-12-2009 IS PLACED BELOW.

KABIR SUMAN, MP ON CORRUPTION IN HIS PARTY TRINAMOOL CONGRESS

COMMENTS MADE BY KABIR SUMAN, MP ON HIS PARTY TRINAMOOL CONGRESS AND SUPREMO MAMATA BANERJEE IN AN INTERVIEW TO TIMES OF INDIA DATED 18TH NOVEMBER, 2009

‘…. he was tired of pursuing MPLAD projects that local Trinamool leaders want to ‘monopolize’

“They want him to just stay at home and sign the papers.”

“Local party interests were hampering his development programmes.”

“Whenever I try to raise an issue, the leaders try to divert it urge me to sing a song instead.”

“…. the party had turned him into a slave.”

“I am sick and tired of these people. Shovan Chattopadhyay (Kolkata Municipal Corporation borough chairperson and a Mamata Banerjee loyalist) told me I need not go to the villages. He asked me to stay at home and sign the papers. If that is so, why the hell am I an MP? Let the MPLAD renamed Party-LAD. They want to do whatever they feel like”.

The singer complained that when he refused to sign on the dotted line, the local leaders hurled buses at him at public meetings.

“I am very sorry to say that my party is full of petty and corrupt leaders at the local level who are not letting me work for the development of my constituency and there is no redressal in sight. I am so fed up with the fact that though I am an MP, I have very little freedom to work on my own. That is why I burst out at the press conference.”

“They (Trinamool leaders) want me to hand over the funds (MPLAD) to them so that they can spend the money on items that they think are important. Needless to say, I tried to find out what their plans are and I am convinced that their intentions are dishonest.”

“I tried to attract her (Mamata Banerjee) attention to corrupt party men in my constituency several times. Unfortunately, I was unable to convince her. Each time she would say, “you rather sing a song!”

“I am feeling helpless about the fact that as an MP I am not being able to address the problems of my area.”

“But none does anything to solve my problems. No one even tries to bring these corrupt party men to book.”

“There’s no denying that I am upset. This is not how I wanted to work as an MP.”

MAOISTS LOOT AND PLUNDER NATURAL RESOURCES

REDS GOT 30% CUT IN KODA’S MINING DEALS (TIMES OF INDIA, KOLKATA, 16TH NOVEMBER 2009 by Pradeep Thakur/TNN)

Naxalites Received ‘Fees’ For Providing Cover To Illegal Operation In Jharkhand

Maoists never tire of styling themselves as the vanguard of resistance to the plunder of resources in the tribal dominated regions citing this as one of the justifications for class warfare.

But as investigations into the gigantic Jharkhand scam progresses, it turns out they were party to the loot, cornering a big share of booty from “illegal mining” which allegedly thrived during Madhu Koda’s chiefministership. Interrogation of four aides of the former Jharkhand chief minister, including his personal assistant Harinder Singh, at Delhi by Enforcement Directorate (ED) reveals Koda issued around 200 prospective mining leases – for exploration of minerals in the state – apart from 40 for mining. Though prospective mining leases are not an authorization for mining scarce resources, it is now learnt that in most of the cases businessmen who procur4ed them resorted to large-scale mining. The share of the illegal activity was equally distributed among politicians, bureaucrats and the ultras who charged a hefty fee for providing protection to the illegal operation, say officials.

Sources said the Koda aide admitted that the political establishment received Rs.10 Lakh per acre at the time of issue of such a license (total area extends to over hundreds of acres) while Naxalites got 20% - 30% on each truckload of minerals taken out of such mine. The bureaucrats who were supposed to check any illegal activity received 10% - 15% of the share of the minerals and the remainder, about 50%, was the businessmen’s share in the loot.

Also parts of this nexus are some politicians and bureaucrats who reaped rich dividend. As ED estimates Koda & Co’s worth to be at several hundreds of crore rupees, Maoists, it seems, had benefited equally from these nefarious deals.

Cross-examination of one of the alleged Koda front man and promoters Balaji Bullion Group of companies, Manoj Punamia, reveals the later had been working for many other high-profile people and that Koda was not the only ‘business’ he had in his basket. His negotiations for an SEZ in Noida, worth Rs. 4,800 crore, where payment was to be allegedly made in euros, and his other real estate contacts worth hundreds of crores in UP hint at his wide network across political affiliations and state boundaries. His expertise in managing ‘entries’ and handling high value cash transactions in banks and through hawala only helped his benefactors to launder big money in Indiana and abroad.

NEW DRAMA OF RAILWAY MINISTER ON SINGUR

On 3rd October, 2008 just on the eve of Durga Puja in 2008 the Tatas were forced to leave unwillingly Singur even after completion of 95% of their Nano Car Factory spending about 1500 crores as a result of the conspiratorial violent agitation of Mamata Banerjee launched in connivance with Maoists, Congress, SUCI, BJP, communal fundamentalists, perverted & spineless intellectuals and foreign funded human rights activists with the financial assistance and guidance from the industrial competitors, finance capital and imperialists. The damage caused to the future of West Bengal is undoubtedly not only irreparable but also unprecedented.

In fact, the one and only aim of this dirty political exercise was to destabilize the Left Front Government throwing to the winds the interests of the state and install Mamata Banerjee as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal.

It is none else but she who forcibly did not also allow coming up of much-awaited Chemical Hub at Nandigram, expansion of National Highways, construction of Hospitals, I.T. Parks, Bridges, Aerodromes, Industries, Thermal Power Plants and other developmental works in West Bengal.

However, the Left Government did not give up hope and after much endeavour it was able to rope in BHEL to set up a 1600 MW Power Plant at the abandoned 997 acres of Nano factory at Singur. BHEL is one of the Nav Ratnas owned by Central Government, which has orders worth 30,000 crores in its hand now. There is a flicker of hope for Tata Motors’ abandoned Singur site. A team from central government-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) visited the place along with state government officials for the project with the West Bengal Power Development Corporation. BHEL General Manager S.C. Mittal was accompanied by WBPDC managing director Debashis Sen. The team also met Tata Motors representatives at the site. The setting up of the Power Plant is under process between BHEL and the Left Front Government.

But Mamata Banerjee is adamant not to allow establishment of any industry at Singur or in West Bengal. So, she, being the personification of destruction, distortion of facts, arrogance, duplicity, dictatorship, violence, provocations, hypocrisy, whims and blatant lies, has again plunged into the arena with the old demand of return of 400 acres of land to the landowners unwilling to part with their land or hand over the entire land to her for the establishment of a Railway Coach Factory.

There is a new coach factory coming up at Rae Bareli. She has announced an EMU and MEMU factory in Halishahar in Bengal in her Budget. Her predecessor has announced another factory at Palghat in Kerala, where the state government will provide 1,000 acres of land free of cost to the Railways. The capacity of Integrated Coach Factory and the Railway Coach Factory is also being increased. So, how can another coach factory be viable?"

If it is a locomotive factory she wants, there are doubts about that, too. There are already two locomotive factories under construction in Bihar - Chhapra and Madhepura. What will she do with a new one in Bengal? The person who drove the Tata factory out of Singur now wants to build another factory.

There is no denying the fact that Mamata Banerjee herself knows well both the demands are unreasonable as well as impossible to meet on the following grounds.

(1) It is not 400 but around 181 acres only.

(2) The 181 acres of land is not a compact single piece of land. It is a fragmented one consisting of thousands pieces of broken plots and remains scattered all over the site. If these fragmented plots are to be returned, neither BHEL nor the Railways will be able to set up any industry with about 1500 private owners residing with their families in the midst of the coming up factory.

(3) Last, but not the least. Once acquired, no land can be returned until and unless the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 is amended suitably for the purpose. In case of non-utilization, the land has to be put into auction by the state government and the highest bidder will get the same in terms of present provisions of the relevant act.

The fact of the matter is that Mamata Banerjee is not at all interested in setting up any industry there. Her only disastrous objective is to dramatize the issue in order to destroy industrialization of West Bengal and thereby augment her own vested political interests with the help and guidance of the Maoists, Congress, BJP, SUCI, sold-out intellectuals and foreign funded human rights activists.

During the period of both Narshimha Rao and Atal Bihari Bajpai, she as the Railway Minister and the Coal Minister had inaugurated whimsically a number of projects without budgetary support or approval of the concerned ministries. None of them have yet been implemented and the lands acquired for these inaugurated projects have still been lying vacant. The drama does not stop here. She has been flagging off old trains in new names and also laying afresh foundation stones of old projects, which were inaugurated long back with foundation stone still lying therein.

She has been acquiring forcibly thousands of acres of most fertile lands in UP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and other states for the implementation of the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors and Industrial Corridor ignoring the vehement objection and stiff resistance of the land losers. Is it not double standard or duplicity?

She holds an important portfolio in the Central Government and also is one of the most powerful ministers. If she is really interested for the welfare of the farmers, instead of creating problems for others, she can exert her office to get the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 amended easily in favour of the unwilling landowners.

It is unfortunate we live in such a country where people are swayed away by wave, hypocrisy, duplicity and blatant false propaganda of the political leaders and ‘so-called’ political leaders and social workers without considering the fact, ground reality and merit of the case.

MEDHA PATKAR PLAYS DUPLICITY ON FARMERS LOSING FERTILE AGRICULTURAL LAND FOR EASTERN AND WESTERN DEDICATED FREIGHT CORRIDORS

Mamata Banerjee as the Indian Railway Minister with the financial assistance of Japan has decided to accelerate the western and eastern Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) along its busy trunk routes to augment the transport capacity and meet the growing requirements of moving freight.

(1) The western Delhi-Mumbai DFC covering 1,483-km through Delhi, National Capital Region (NCR), Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra at a cost of Rs.26, 124 crores will stretch from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Navi Mumbai to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh on the national capital's outskirts covering Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

High fertile farming land falling in villages of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra are covered under western corridor project.

Another project, the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor will also be developed simultaneously through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) along with the freight corridor.

The Railway Ministry expects to complete both the freight corridor and the industrial corridor by 2013.

(2) The eastern DFC will extend 1,806 km from Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni near Kolkata. It will be extended in future to serve the new deep-sea port in the Kolkata area and to largely serve coal and steel traffic. Here also fertile 3-crop/4-crop land will be acquired for the purpose.

The railways need to acquire 12,500 hectares over 51 districts in seven states for the proposed eastern and western freight corridor projects. The railways are demanding 42 per cent more 3-crop/4-crop fertile farming land for the project than what was previously envisaged. This is in sharp contrast to the earlier estimate of 8,833 hectares.

The railways have prepared land acquisition plans for 2,200 km. It has already issued a gazette notification for acquisition of 3-crop/4-crop high fertile farming land in villages of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra covering a stretch of 1,077 km.

By the end of January 2009, the railways will be able to acquire nearly 100 km near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The remaining areas will be acquired over six months.

The Railway Ministry on September 29, 2008 had published a notification declaring its intention to acquire 3-crop/4-crop fertile farming lands in Gujarat for execution, maintenance, management and operation of special rail corridor project following which farmers losing their 3-crop/4-crop fertile farming lands in these villages had raised about 1301 objections.

A year later on September 15, 2009, the government published a Notification stating that it has acquired 700 hectares of 3-crop/4-crop fertile farming land in 31 villages in three talukas and Vadodara city of Gujarat for the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Project.

Farmers and sharecroppers in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat have started agitation against the acquisition of highly fertile agriculture land for the proposed Freight Corridor.

They have suggested redesigning of the routes for sparing valuable 3-crop/4-crop fertile farming lands from acquisition and said the compensation package offered to these farmers in lieu of their 3-crop/4-crop fertile farming land was very less and not acceptable to them. The Railways have taken away their fertile farming land at throw away prices and rendered them jobless.

The farmers of Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh under the banner of Krishi Bhoomi Bachao Sangharsh Samiti and Satya Foundation (SF) have started agitation against the acquisition of their fertile farming land for the proposed freight corridor of Indian Railways.

It was seen that during Singur and Nandigram episodes, all the opposition political parties including TMC, Congress, BJP, SUCI, Maoists and Naxalites had not only supported the violent agitation of Mamata Banerjee in the name of saving fertile agricultural land but also actively participated in the same. Besides, Mahasweta Devi and other ‘pseudo’ intellectuals and ‘so-called’ human rights activists had day and night campaigned vociferously against the Left Front Government and helped the agitators and goons in all possible ways to sabotage the industrial resurgence. Shri Lal Krishna Advani, Shri Amar Singh and other leaders of anti-Leftist national political parties had regularly been to Nandigram and Singur to add fuel to fire by expressing their solidarity with Mamata Banerjee and the agitators.

As a result, dreams of two major projects have been shattered. Opposition to government intervention in land acquisition helped Mamata Banerjee gain enormous political mileage, but it has left industry in West Bengal with Hobson’s choice

It is an irony that the same Mamata Banerjee has been now engaged in acquiring forcibly most fertile lands in seven states for Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors despite stiff and vehement opposition from the landowners and farmers. But the said political parties, national leaders, ‘pseudo’ intellectuals, Maoists, Naxalites and ‘so-called’ human rights activists are shamelessly silent on the matter. Nobody has yet met the affected farmers to give a patient hearing to them and address their grievances.

There cannot be separate rules for separates states in this country on acquisition of land. But yes, there is. Strange is the politics in this country.

The fact is that all forces ranging from ultra leftists to ultra rightists including those of communal, imperialist, finance capital and a section of media have ganged up with one and only aim to dislodge the Left Front Government anyway and at any cost. They donot abide by any logic, reason or fact. They with their obligation to imperialism went against all norms of civilized political behaviour and supported TMC which is nothing but a nuisance to Indian Politics dominated by one eccentric person devoid any ideology or policy

There is no denying the fact that hundreds of farmers have already committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and other states. Thousands and thousands acres of fertile land has been acquired under duress in many states for industries and other developmental works depriving the farmers of their landed property. But none of the saviors of tribals, peasants and the underprivileged are seen in the picture to express their solidarity with the deprived. Is it not ambivalence?
The double standard, fraudulency and duplicity maintained by political frauds, perverted intellectuals and foreign funded human rights activists are nothing but mockery of democracy, integrity, transparency and honesty. These people stand exposed today. History will judge judiciously these swindlers working on the pay roll of imperialists, foreign finance capital and big business houses in the days to come and throw them into dustbin.

SO-CALLED HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS SILENT ON MURDER OF 75 YEAR OLD WOMAN AND RAPE OF HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW BY MAOIST –TMC GOONS

The unprecedented brutality and violence of the Maoist-TMC action squad members in West Bengal particularly one women and minor girls keep on increasing dangerously with the passage of each day.

(1) In last July 2009 a poor underprivileged woman Anjali Maiti of Tikashi Gram Panchayat under Khejuri Police Station was repeatedly raped in a stretch for some days by Maoist-TMC action squad members taking advantage of the absence of her husband, who, being a CPI (M) supporter, had fled to save his life from the wrath of the killers leaving behind his wife to look after the ancestral home.

(2) On 27th September 2009 at about 9-00 p.m. 35-40 Maoist-TMC armed goons attacked Muslim dominated locality of Mollapara in CPI (M) supporter village called Baradighrui under Purshura Police Station in Hooghly district of West Bengal. During this attack, they torched most of the houses of the poor people and assaulted seriously CPI (M) farmer leader Seikh Hashibul Hussain. His waist and legs were not only broken to pieces but was also repeatedly stabbed seriously in the back with pointed spears.

He was admitted to Arambagh Hospital and after fighting with death for 11 days he expired on 9th October 2009.

After attacking Seikh Hashibul Hussein, they went to the nearby house of another CPI (M) supporter family belonging 75 year old Saifunissa. Seeing them approaching, all her sons named Sk. Mossaraf Hussain, Sk. Nazir, Sk. Mujibur Rehaman, Sk. Moyunuddin, Sk. Nayeem and other male members fled to save their lives leaving behind female members and children. The goons started to assault females. One of them snatched 1.1/2 years grandson Riyaz from the lap of his mother and tried to throw him into the nearby pond. Seeing this Saifunissa prevented him from doing so. At this the goons became furious and started to beat her with sticks and bamboos. She received serious injuries in her left leg. The brutality of the Maoist-TMC criminals did not stop here. Some of them caught one of her daughter-in-laws Siddique Begum and gangraped her repeatedly. Other female members were also molested.

Saifunissa remained lying in the house suffering for two days without any treatment as nobody dared enter her house. On 29th September 2009 she was rescued by the police and admitted to Arambagh Government Hospital.

On seeing deterioration in her health, she was referred to S.S.K.M. Hospital on 9th October 2009 in a serious condition. The attending physicians expressed the need for amputation of her left leg to save her life. But she was practically in a coma without responding to medical treatment and succumbed to her fatal serious injuries at 4-30 p.m. on 4th November 2009.

Instead of showing any sympathy for the old lady of 75, Mamata Banerjee, in order to protect the offenders, declared brazenly in a mass meeting at Arambagh in the afternoon of the same day that Saifunissa Bibi had died a natural death. She did not stop here. She incited her supporters to create such a situation so that the Central Government will be forced to impose President’s Rule in West Bengal advancing the assembly elections scheduled to be held in 2011.

Next day Saifunissa Bibi was laid in rest in the graveyard of her family by her sons and near relatives. But all of them had to leave their ancestral home immediately to pass their days in the refugee camps.

(3) At night of 22nd October 2009 in the village of Mogra in Ramchak Gram Panchayat under Moyna Police Station in East Midnapur, West Bengal the Maoist-TMC action squad members under the leadership of one Pankaj Mondal in a conciliation meeting asked a widow and mother of three children Smt. Malabika Maji to commit suicide after giving her bad name on false grounds. When the helpless lady refused to do so, she was tied to a big tree and torched after pouring kerosene on her body. However, she was rescued by the villagers and admitted to Moyna Rural Hospital where she is still fighting for her life.

The West Bengal Women’s Commission has already caused detailed investigations into the gruesome incidents and found all of them true. The Commission has condemned them in the strongest possible manner and recommended the state government to take exemplary drastic actions against the Maoist-TMC culprits.

But it is most unfortunate, shameful, shocking and regrettable that the ‘so-called’ contractors of the civil society and savior of tribals in the garb of intellectuals, foreign funded agents working in the guise of human rights activists and the politically motivated media have not yet come out with any statement or writing condemning the ghastly incidents of atrocities on helpless poor women because all these atrocities fall within the purview of revolutionary performance and activities of CPI (Maoist)-TMC Alliance and its vanguards fighting against the CPI (M).

WHY SALWA JUDUM CAME INTO BEING?

The following is the circumstances in which Salwa Judum evolved in the state of Chhattisgarh.

In the beginning, the Bastar tribals welcomed the Maoists because they were harassed by corrupt revenue, police and forest officials and were exploited by the traders from plains areas who never gave them fair price for their products. The Maoists appeared as the benefactors, protecting and upholding their interests. However, in due course, as the Maoists entrenched themselves in the region, they started showing insensitivity to the feelings of tribals. They interfered with the social customs and cultural practices of the local tribals. Ghotuls were closed. Weekly bazaars were looted. Traditional celebrations at the time of marriage were discouraged. Images of Buddhadeb (Lord Shiva) were damaged and the tribals were asked to worship Mao only. Village priests were driven away. All this deeply hurt the tribals. There was a strong feeling of resentment. The Maoists did not allow the tribals to pluck tendu leaves also. This was a regular source of income for them and every family earned Rs.10, 000 to 15,000 from the trade. This was denied to them. The resultant economic hardship proved to be the proverbial last straw. Enough was enough, the tribals felt.

It was against this background that the tribals rebelled against the Maoists. Large groups of people held rallies where they expressed their vehement opposition to the aggressions of the Maoists. This was the beginning of Salwa Judum, reflecting the resentment of the tribals against the activities of Maoists interfering with their social customs, cultural practices and hurting their economic interests. Mahendra Karma, Congress (I) Leader, gave them the leadership. It was a spontaneous movement, though it is also a fact that at present the camps are being maintained and financed by the state government.

NO EXTENSION TO PRO-IMPERIALIST GOVERNOR OF WEST BENGAL

The pro-imperialist and blind anti-Communist Governor of West Bengal is a man of man of many parts and personality with learning, passion, emotion and compassion. But bad people say that all these qualities are prejudiced and one eyed. He is not so innocent and impartial as he pretends to look. Besides, he is also in possession of an unusual ‘conscience’. It wakes up all on a sudden only when Mamata Banerjee and her rainbow alliance of Maoist, TMC, Congress, SUCI, few Perverted Intellectuals, politically motivated Media, some NGOs and so-called Human Rights Originations desire and demand in times of need to push their political agenda of overthrowing the Left Front Government in West Bengal. In fact, he is the “Friend, Philosopher and Guide” of this alliance and the Governor House has become a centre for hatching political conspiracy against the Left Front Government.

There is no denying the fact that the Governor is a constitutional head of a state. So, he has two options only. He may call the Chief Minister or any of his Ministers for discussion on any matter which he considers to be serious. The second option is that he may send his report to the Central Government. One eminent Indian Constitutional Expert has very rightly commented that the Governor cannot have any personal view. He has to work within the constitutional limitations. He has no scope for possessing any opinion different from that of the state government.

In Shamsher Singh Vs State of Punjab, the Supreme Court held that the President and the Governors are only constitutional heads and they exercise their power and functions with the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers and not personally. Wherever the constitution requires the ‘satisfaction’ of the President or the Governor, the ‘satisfaction’ is not the personal satisfaction of the President or the Governor but it is the satisfaction of the Council of Ministers.

But the frequent politically motivated statements issued by him for landing the Left Front Government in constitutional crisis has earned him the unequivocal praise of Mamata Banerjee and her rainbow alliance. To tell the truth, instead of discharging impartially and honestly his duties as a constitutional head, he himself has been in the arena trying to embarrass, heckle and humiliate the Left Front Government and tarnish its image in the estimation of the people throughout the country. He has been instrumental in sabotaging the industrial resurgence of the state. His modus operandi for creating constitutional crisis in the state with the help of the opposition has, therefore, considerably and definitely lowered and damaged the dignity, honour, prestige and status of this august office. It, therefore, not only goes against the spirit of the Constitution but also aimed at subverting it.

The tenure of the West Bengal Governor is going to expire very shortly. If he leaves West Bengal, the rainbow alliance will become orphan and guideless. It, therefore, invariably and certainly needs his prejudiced service and some more skillfully drafted public statements similar to those of 15-03-2007 and 09-11-2007 till the next assembly elections going to be held in 2011 so as to dislodge the Left Front Government with his advice, guidance and blessings. So, relentless efforts are already on by them to keep him in West Bengal till the next elections.

If the Central Government tries to keep the most controversial, prejudiced and politically motivated Governor of West Bengal for another term on the recommendations of Mamata Banerjee and her rainbow alliance, it will undoubtedly go against the very spirit of federal fabric of our country and create unnecessary political turmoil in the state.

West Bengal has tolerated him beyond limitations. Enough is enough. The sooner he leaves West Bengal; the better for the industrial resurgence and people of this state.

ANTINATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS

At the deaths of Rizwanur Rehaman in Kolkata and 14 people at Nandigram, Mahasweta Devi and her team of perverted intellectuals human rights activists had organized candle processions, rallies, seminars, meetings and conventions. All of them performed feats and tricks of jugglery (Madari Ka Khel) and sang & danced to the tune set by the imperialists, international finance capital and big business houses. They compared Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee with Hitler and Narendra Modi and gave a call for change (Parivartan) in West Bengal during last Parliamentary Elections held in May, 2009.

More than 300 innocent people including landless labourers, peasants, grocers, teachers, doctors, nurse, government officials, police personnel, artisans etc. have already been butchered by Maoist-TMC Alliance in the last few months. Thousands of people have been rendered homeless and jobless.

But the hypocritical intellectuals belonging to ‘Sushil Samaj’ ‘Nagarik Samaj’ ‘Biddwajan’ and ‘Swajan’ have been shamelessly maintaining criminal silence.

The people of the country have recognized them and their fraudulent character and politically biased activities.

MAGSAYSAY AWARD AND ITS RECEIPANTS

The Magsaysay Award has been introduced in the name of Ramon del Fierro Magsaysay. Who was Magsaysay and what was his political outlook? What for the said award has been introduced?

Ramon del Fierro Magsaysay (August 31, 1907 - March 17, 1957) was the third President of the Third Republic of the Philippines from December 30, 1953 until his death in a plane crash on 17th March, 1957. He was a diehrd anti-Communist. He was elected President under the banner of the Nacionalista Party.

On April 23, 1946, Magsaysay was elected as an Independent to the Philippine House of Representatives. In 1949 he was re-elected to a second term in the House of Representatives. During both terms he was Chairman of the House National Defense Committee.

In early August 1950 he offered President Quirino a plan to fight the Communist guerillas, using his own experiences in guerrilla warfare during World War II. After some hesitation, Quirino realized that there was no alternative and appointed Magsaysay Secretary of National Defence on August 31, 1950. He intensified his campaign against the Communist guerillas. He killed brutally thousands of Communists and Leftists as well as suppressed their just struggle. This success was due in part to the unconventional methods he employed and developed alongside an American adviser, General Edward Lansdale.

In June 1952 Magsaysay made a goodwill tour to the United States and Mexico.

He was convinced that the only way to continue his fight against Communism was to be elected President ousting the existing administration that, in his opinion, had caused the rise of the Communist guerrillas. He resigned his post as Defense Secretary on February 28, 1953, and became the Presidential Candidate of the Nacionalista Party, disputing the nomination with senator Camilo Osías at the Nacionalista national convention. In the Election of 1953, Magsaysay was decisively elected president over the incumbent Elpidio Quirino.

As president, he was a close friend and supporter of the United States and a vocal spokesman against Communism during the Cold War. He led the foundation of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization also known as the Manila Pact of 1954, that aimed to defeat Communist-Marxist movements in South East Asia, South Asia and the Southwestern Pacific.

On March 17, 1957 Magsaysay died in a plane crash while flying back to Manila from Cebu.
The Magsaysay Award has been introduced to keep his memory and anti-Communist measures alive and encourage the staunch anti-Communist intellectuals of Asia.
Mahasweta Devi and Sambhu Mitra are two such intellectuals in India who received this award with pride.

The award under the name and style “Magsaysay Award” has been introduced after his name to felicitate and acknowledge blind anti-Communist intellectuals only working in Asia in order to encourage and promote them in their activities. So, as a part of this anti-Communist objective and campaign,

POLITICALLY MOTIVATED SO-CALLED "HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANISATIONS" OF WEST BENGAL

A few days back instead of appreciating and encouraging the police personnel, who were able to arrest the dreaded cold blooded Maoist murderer Chatradhar Mahato from Lalgarh risking their own lives, some so and so-called "Human Rights Organizations" in West Bengal raised their voice against the ‘so-called’ deceitful manner of his detention. They also tried to make a hue and cry on the plea that their noble profession has been tarnished beyond redemption.

During interrogation Chatradhar Mahato has revealed shockingly that immediately before the start of the join operation in Lalgarh on 17th June, 2009 many Maoist terrorists and Maoist sympathizers represented by students of Jadavpur University and other professions were able to escape the joint forces in the guise of reporters.

It is strange that none has raised even any least protest against this tarnishing of their noble profession by the Maoists. This attitude on their part triggers the impression to gain ground that except police anyone can use the disguise of their noble profession for any purpose, whatsoever, including that of antinational character and nature.

They believe that as long as it is against the CPI (M) and the mainstream Leftists, it is right, praiseworthy and above criticism.

LINK OF PSEUDO HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANISATIONS WITH MAOISTS

With the passage of each single day more and more startling and shocking revelations made by dreaded Maoist butcher Chatradhar Mahato about the dubious role of the pseudo intellectuals of West Bengal and so-called "Human Rights Organisations" during interrogation by the investigating agencies are coming to light. It is exposed by him how these so-called intellectuals represented by some writers, dramatists, poets, painters, ignoring national as well as state interests, were instrumental not only in lending moral support to the cold blooded killer Maoists by organizing meetings, processions, meetings, seminars, conventions but also in collecting and supplying money and arms to them for the purpose of creating a reign of terror and panic in Lalgarh and Jangalmahal areas as a result of which hundreds of villages are oscillating from the deepest gloom to panic consequent upon ghastly murder of innocent tribals and people irrespective of caste, creed and religion, plunder, loot, arson and what not. They still brave this ordeal of Maoists. Many more facts are still in the cupboard to unfold.

To tell the truth, they helped all sorts of disruptive forces to throw the normal life in the state out of gear. Since the episodes of Nandigram, Singur and Rizwanur Rahaman they have been hell bent upon the resurgence of Maoist-TMC-Congress-SUCI Alliance in West Bengal. It is shocking to say the least that they continue to plot in destabilizing the state by way of escalating violence and spree of murder out of Lalgarh and Jangalmahal.

In fact, the one and sole aim of these Maoist intellectuals and so-called "Human Rights Organisations" is to instal Mamata Banerjee as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal by means of ensuring enormous political mileage to her as was done by them during the occurrences of Nandigram, Singur and Rizwanur Rahaman. Every now and then they continue to leave no stone unturned in innovating new ways and means to destroy the peaceful life of the people.

These pseudo intellectuals and so-called "Human Rights Organisations" still donot feel shy in admitting their antinational role and criminal misdeeds which are against all norms of civilized behaviour. Now they have begun to put forward different kinds of unusual, ridiculous, strange and abnormal self contradictory versions and pretexts for falling Chatradhar Mahato after being caught red handed. They should not consider the people so naïve as to believe their assertions. The famed ‘intellectuals’ of Bengal and so-called "Human Righths Organisations" passing their peaceful life in air-conditioned rooms and thinking themselves above the law of the land are nothing but a sham. They are the people who have neither knowledge nor understanding of the agonies of the tribals and the downtrodden. With their obligation to imperialism, these sold out pseudo intellectuals persist in their endeavour to advocate and promote the cause of the cold blooded murderers by way of adopting all sorts of dubious ways and methods.

MAOISTS PROVE THEIR ALLIANCE WITH MAMATA BANERJEE

The Lalgarh episode has once again brought to the fore the nexus among the Trinamool Congress, the pseudo intellectuals, some politically motivated media, mysterious NGOs, so-called humans rights’ organizations and the Maoists.

The PSBJC Convener Chatradhar Mahato, a contractor by profession, is the brother of this Maoist Bikash. In an interview to NDTV on 22nd June, Chatradhar Mahato stated that he has been an activist of the Trinamool Congress and actively campaigned for it during the Panchayat elections in 2008. He also admitted that his brother is a Maoist. Mamata Banerjee herself has provided active support to the Lalgarh blockade throughout and even addressed a rally of the PSBJC in Lalgarh on 4th February 2009, sharing the dais with Chatradhar Mahato. As the security forces’ operation in Lalgarh began, the double standards of Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee got badly exposed:

17TH JUNE 2009

Partha Chatterjee, Trinamool MLA and leader of Opposition in WB Assembly: “If the Maoists are unleashing terror, then why is the CPI (M) not asking the government to ban the organization? The ‘Maoist drama’ has the support of the chief minister.” (Asian Age)

18TH JUNE 2009

Maoist leader Kishenji: “People will block the roads, the armed forces that come will be taught a lesson, the central govt., the Buddhadeb govt. will be taught a lesson…We are asking Mamata too, she was with us in Nandigram…now we want to know what stand she will take. She is now in the cabinet, the sole member from her party… The tribals here are sitting in protest against the Paramilitary forces, ready to fight them. Which side will Mamata support is what we want to know.” (NDTV)

20th June 2009

Mamata Banerjee: “If statements by Biman Bose and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee linking our party with Maoists are not withdrawn within 48 hours, we will agitate to demand sacking of the government by the Centre. We don't believe in individual killings and don't have link with Maoists. We have been demanding ban on Maoists in the state…He himself (Buddhadeb Bhattacharya) had said once that he is fond of Maoist books and literature and has them at his residence.” (Outlook)

Kishenji: “She is playing a political game. Even though she is a member of the Central Cabinet, she has not said a single word against sending Central forces to Lalgarh. Now, to gain sympathy in West Bengal, she is saying that the police and the CPI (M) unleashed a reign of terror in Jangalmahal. This is clearly a case of double standards on her part. The mask has fallen from her face…After the Lalgarh movement started, Mamata Banerjee visited Lalgarh. The locals allowed her to visit this place. But now she will not be able to come to Lalgarh or any parts of Jangalmahal. We have also decided that we will prevent her from entering Nandigram and Singur, where we were part of the movement.” (Asian Age)

22ND JUNE 2009

Kishenji: “Mamata’s real interest is to grab power in West Bengal. Had she been sincere, she would have stepped down from the Union cabinet because the Centre has joined hands with the state government to unleash a reign of terror in Lalgarh” (India Today)

29TH JUNE 2009

Mamata Banerjee: “I am once again urging the central government not to provide support to the CPIM at Lalgarh and use central forces to unearth illegal arms stocked by the party…I urge the Centre to immediately convene an emergency meeting to be attended by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram to review what actually is happening at Lalgarh in the name of flushing out Maoists.” (Hindustan Times)

1ST JULY, 2009

Mamata Banerjee: “What is going on at Lalgarh is a total drama. There are no Maoist activists in the region. If there had been any ultra Left activists, they have by now already fled the area and the Left Front government has allowed them to flee. Now in the name of running joint operations against the Maoists, the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government is just trying to regain its political base…” (Economic Times)

CONCLUSION

Despite the fact that not even one person has been injured or killed by the security forces since the beginning of the joint operations in June 2009, Maoist sympathizers have launched a high pitched campaign against “state repression” and “atrocities” in order to mislead people on the ground situation in Lalgarh. The fact is that more than 75 CPI (M) activists and supporters have been assassinated by the Maoists since the launch of the operations. Efforts by the Maoist sympathizers and the Trinamool Congress to stall the operations of the security forces are nothing but an attempt to perpetuate the reign of terror by the Maoists.

Some ‘pseudo’ intellectuals, some politically motivated media and some so-called Humans Right’s Organizations of West Bengal have again appeared on the streets to criticize the arrest of dreaded Maoist terrorist Chatradhar Mahato by police in Lalgarh on 26-09-2009. Besides, they have also demanded his immediate release. These “so-called” intellectuals habituated to sing, dance and perform tricks and feats of jugglery to the tune of imperialists, big corporate houses and Mamata Banerjee have been trying to project the terrorist and extortionist responsible for gruesome butchering of hundreds of innocent people in a couple of months in West Bengal as a “tribal hero”. During this mayhem the “so-called” intellectuals on the pay roll of imperialists maintained a studied silence and did not spend a single word to condemn the inhuman activities of the terrorists who are having direct links with other terrorist outfits of north-east and across the border enemy nations aiming at to subvert our country.

As a matter of fact, some of these ‘pseudo’ intellectuals represented by some dramatists, singers, actors, actresses, writers and poets have already been able to manage Life Long Free AC Railway Passes and berths on different Committees of the Indian Railways especially set up at the cost of the nation to accommodate them only and especially for their unequivocal support to the rainbow alliance of Maoist-TMC-Congress-SUCI during last Parliamentary Elections. Now, they have been standing in queue at the door of Mamata Banerjee waiting for tickets to State Assembly Elections in 2011, Padma Shree, Padma Bhusan, Padma Vibhusan and other national awards.

People must, therefore, remain cautious and alert about these purchased stooges and agents of imperialists who can take recourse to any anti-national activity and stoop to any level to in the interest of their vested interests. Some so-called intellectuals have also supported with money and arms to subvert democracy.

The unholy nexus among the Trinamool Congress, the pseudo intellectuals and the Maoists need to be exposed thoroughly.

WHY CHIDAMBRAM SILENT OVER PRO-MAOIST RAILWAY MINISTER

In a Press Conference in Delhi on 30-09-2009, Shri P. Chidambaram, Hon’ble Home Minister, termed the arrest of Maoist terrorists Kobad Gandhi and Chatradhar Mahato as grand achievements. At the same time he did not forget to criticize the Left Front Government in West Bengal for its shortcomings in tackling the Maoist problem in the state.

But he did not utter even a single word against his colleague Railway Minister and six other Central Ministers who are directly hand in gloves with the Maoists. He also did not say why innocent people are falling prey to the brutalities of Maoists in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and other states.

Just before the 15th Lok Sabha elections were announced, the TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee herself went to express her solidarity with the pro-Maoist Committee (Peoples Committee against Police Atrocities) formed in Lalgarh under the leadership of Maoist-cum-TMC leader Chatradhar Mahato. She shared the same platform to address the people in the presence of the leadership of the PCAPA and Maoists. No other political party was allowed to visit the area, which had been blockaded by the said Committee. However, while Left party leaders were being targeted and sought to be killed, she along with other TMC leaders could go there without any security!

It is an open secret that these ministers from West Bengal have been using the Maoists for petty political gains. They openly support Maoists, keep close contact with them and hold regular meetings with them. These ministers belonging to TMC not only frequently demand withdrawal of joint operation against Maoists but also some of them even visited Lalgarh recently to embolden Maoists to carry out their destructive activities and mass killing of tribals in the name of so-called ‘revolution’. The function of cabinet is a collective responsibility. The role of the UPA Government is, therefore, nothing but dubious, double standard, antinational, treacherous, dishonest and fraudulent. The objective of destabilizing a duly constitutionally elected State Government and encouraging terrorist outfits is aimed at to achieve some petty political gains at the cost of the nation. The result is the present spate of one after another murder and violence in West Bengal.

The Maoists have again butchered 17 persons at night of 01-10-2009 in Bihar. Is the Government of West Bengal responsible for the same?

The entire nation therefore expects that instead of criticizing others on political considerations and gains, Shri Chidambaram should act in the best interest of the safety and security of the entire country without any jaundiced eye.

TRIBALES FALL PREY TO MAOIST BULLETS

Lalgarh is a Gram Panchayat within the Binpur block in West Midnapur district. There are nine GPs in the same block. Binpur Assembly constituency is composed of the GPs of Binpur I and II.

The Maoists have been active in the bordering areas of Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapur districts since 2001.

Having tasted blood in Nandigram, several attempts were made by the Trinamool Congress and the Maoists to create similar situations elsewhere in West Bengal. On 2nd November 2008, an attempt was made by the Maoists to assassinate the West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, when he was returning from Shalboni in West Midnapur along with the Union Steel Minister after laying the foundation stone of a steel plant. The landmine exploded by the Maoists missed the Chief Minister’s convoy narrowly. The police launched operations to arrest the culprits and some suspects were arrested. In the process, however, the police indulged in some unjustifiable repressive measures in the Chotopelia village in Lalgarh, especially against some tribal women, one of whose eye was severely damaged. 11women lodged formal complaints about police torture.

This angered the local tribals who launched protests against the police led by the Bharat Jakat Majhi Marwa (BJMM), a body of adivasi community leaders. They demanded treatment and compensation for the injured tribal women, action against the guilty police officials and release of the arrested suspects. On14th November the BJMM leadership reached an agreement with the local authorities. The administration accepted most the demands and provided treatment and compensation for the injured women, released eight of the accused including three school going boys who were arrested and the SP and the Inspector in Charge of Lalgarh police station were transferred.

However, a Committee named Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharner Committee (PSBJC) was formed under the leadership of Chatradhar Mahato. It was backed by the Maoists. It accused the BJMM leadership of selling out. The PSJBC blockaded the entire Lalgarh area by digging up roads and felling trees, similar to Nandigram, and made the area out of bounds for the police and the administration. They demanded a public apology by the District Superintendent of Police of West Midnapur and other policemen by holding their ears and crawling with their nose to the ground. The administration tried to open dialogue with them but the PSBJC continued with the blockade insisting upon the public apology by the police officials. That the PSBJC was not interested in resolving the issue in a peaceful and democratic manner became clear with the continuing blockade.

It is revealed in The Economist, June 27-July 3 issue under the caption of ‘India’s Naxalite: a rag-tag rebellion’ the name of Chatradhar Mahato and his activities covering some 2000 villages with a joint force of PSBJC and ‘Maoist’ guerrillas.

The local tribal people were not in favour of the undemocratic tactics adopted by the Maoist backed PSBJC. The Bharat Jakat Majhi Marwa organized a rally to protest Maoist violence on 9th December in the Bhulabheda area of Belpahari, where more than 10,000 adivasis had gathered. Sudhir Mandal, the adivasi leader who organized the rally, was shot dead by the Maoists less than 48 hours later. The PSBJC formed a parallel administration and its Maoist allies prevented the entry of the police and administration in the villages of Belpahari, Binpur, Lalgarh, Jamboni, Shalboni and Goaltore.

It is a known fact that since 2001, ‘Maoists’ started to build their contacts in West Midnapur, Bankura, and Purulia districts and in certain areas, waged concerted attacks against the Left forces targeting the CPI(M) as the main enemy. The following is the latest list of persons almost all CPI (M) leaders, members and supporters butchered by Maoists.

Apart from this, they have killed 23 police personnel, 1 doctor, 1 nurse and 4 government employees on duty.

Just before the 15th Lok Sabha elections were announced, the TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee herself went to express her solidarity with the pro-Maoist committee (Peoples Committee against Police Atrocities) formed in the area under the leadership of a former Trinamool Congress leader Chatradhar Mahato. She shared the same platform to address the people in the presence of the leadership of the PCAPA. No other political party was allowed to visit the area, which had been blockaded by the committee. However, while Left party leaders were being targeted and sought to be killed, she along with other TMC leaders could go there without any security!

Today when she disclaims any contact with these groups does it have any credibility? It is also now clear as daylight that the TMC is playing the main role in creating chaos and disorder along with the other right-wing political parties as well as the left extremist political outfits. This fact has been corroborated by one of the topmost leader of the CPI (Maoist), Koteswara Rao (Kishenji), through a TV interview. He confirmed that they helped the TMC to drive out the CPI (M) from Nandigram and adjacent areas. In return, he wanted the TMC leader who was now a Union Minister to come forward and help them to do same in Lalgarh. These details are also brought out in this pamphlet.

It is clear that the blockaded area of Lalgarh was being used by the Maoists to launch murderous attacks, especially targeting CPI (M) activists and supporters. The objective of the blockade was also to shield the Maoists, who were behind the assassination attempt on the Chief Minister. This became clear when Maoist cadre Sasadhar Mahato (Bikash), the prime suspect behind the assassination attempt, appeared before the media within the “liberated zone” of Lalgarh on 16th June with an AK 47 slung on his shoulders. Bikash said on NDTV: “On 2nd November, our plan was to execute Buddhadeb. If people want Buddhadeb hanged, who will hang him? It will be us of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army.” He was making these statements with the CPI (M) Local Committee Office in Dharampur burning in the backdrop and the corpse of CPI (M) activist Salku Soren, who was killed few days back by the Maoists, lying beside it without cremation for three days. It was in the backdrop of this murderous spree by the Maoists, that the State Government was forced to launch a combined operation of the state police and the central security forces on 18th June 2009. The objective was to combat the Maoists and restore normalcy in the area.

WHY INTELLECTUALS CRY OVER THE DETENTION OF MAOIST KILLER CHATRADHAR MAHATO?

In the evening of 2nd October, 2009 some ‘so-called’ intellectuals of West Bengal met the press at Kolkata and demanded the following.

(1) The joint force is to be withdrawn from Lalgarh immediately.

(2) The government should apologize for arresting him deceitfully.

(3) He should be given enough judicial protection.

(4) The Government should sit with the Maoists for an amicable solution.

While their press meet in progress, 2 more innocent villagers were killed in Lalgarh by the Maoists. These perverts and foreign agents also maintained a studied silence over the killing of 17 innocent unarmed helpless and defenseless persons including women and minor children in Khagaria district of Bihar at night of 01-10-2009.

All along these shameless hypocrites and frauds justified the butchering of innocent people by the Maoists. They did not utter even a single word against the merciless killings by them? On the other hand, they termed the antinational terrorist and murderer Chatradhar Mahato a people’s leader and hero and also demanded enough judicial protection for him avoiding the fact that he is the same person who is responsible for the killing of hundreds of innocent unarmed people and who has amassed huge wealth and properties worth crores of rupees through extortion, blackmailing and other illegal activities. They even tried ridiculously to create an impression to the effect that Chatradhar Mahato has no connection with Maoists and the people being killed in Lalgarh are due to internal feud within CPI (M). These liars utter all these ludicrous words in spite of knowing fully that the Maoists have called Bharat Bandh on 03-10-2009 in protest against the arrest of Chatradhar Mahato and Kobad Gandhi.

The people of the state have not yet forgotten that these ‘pseudo’ intellectuals have so long been supplying money and arms to the antinational Maoist terrorists. The confession made by Chatradhar Mahato also reportedly corroborates the same. Not only that. They also smuggled out terrorists in their vehicles to protect them from police action.

Instead of expressing repentance to the nation and the grieved families of the murdered people for their activities, these sold out arrogants still sing and dance to the tune of antinational forces and terrorists.

There is no denying the fact that everybody is equal in the eye of law. Nobody is above it. If anti-national terrorists can be arrested and put to trial why these enemies of the country in the guise of ‘pseudo’ intellectuals should not be put behind bars for trial in the interest of the nation?

FEW MEDIA OF WB SUPPORTING BUTCHER MAOISTS

Some media in West Bengal have raised their voice against the so-called “deceitful manner” in which Chatradhar Mahato, the dreaded anti-national Maoist terrorist responsible for the gruesome murder of hundreds of innocents, eviction of thousands of people and plunder and torching of their houses in Lalgarh and Jangalmahal areas of West Bengal, has been arrested by the police in the guise of journalists. They think that the action of the police has tarnished the image of their profession.

IS IT REALLY SO?

HAS THE POLITICALLY MOTIVATED MEDIA LEFT ANY IMAGE IN THEIR PROFESSION?

Kishenji, one of the top Maoist leaders, has already declared that most of the media in the state are friendly to them. So, the criticism on the part of some media over the arrest of their murderous terrorist-turned-friend is very natural. But the pretext of condemnation is unnatural and ludicrous.

There is no denying the fact that the media in West Bengal think themselves to be next to ‘God’ only and above the Constitution as well as Law of the land as well as the Code of Ethics of Journalism & Media Guidelines evolved by the Press Council of India. They also believe that the cowardly acts of butchering unarmed poor tribals and innocent people by armed Maoists are justified. This media never raised any protest against the terrorist outfits for unleashing a reign of terror and panic in Nandigram, Lalgarh, Jangalmahal and other areas of the state. On the other hand, they along with Mamata Banerjee and her rainbow alliance of TMC-Congress-SUCI-pseudo intellectuals always tried to prove unsuccessfully that the Maoists were never in Nandigram, Singur, Lalgarh, Jangalmahal and other Maoist infested areas and dismissed the fact as bogus and as the propaganda of CPI (M).

They believe that the media has the birth right to adopt any dubious or fraudulent method in their profession and approach anyone including antinational terrorist outfits, wood smugglers and abductors at anytime in the guise of any profession to glorify them as “national heroes” and “modern Robinhoods”. They have the fundamental right to write anything, whatsoever, in respect of any person or any organization that they do not like out of political considerations and professional compulsions. It does not matter whether it goes against the interests of the country or ethics of journalism. But others have no such right. The media people think that everything and every act stand fair and justified in their profession. They also think that the Maoist assassins, hired killers, extortionists, blackmailers and mercenaries have also the freedom to carry on all sorts of inhuman and barbarous anti-people and anti-national activities without any interruption from any quarter.

The Constitution of India gives editors and journalists the fundamental right to publish and print news or any kind of information and to comment and criticize on public affairs. It includes the right not to publish or comment as well. However, the freedom of the press is not absolute; neither is the freedom of expression.

The fundamental objective of journalism is to serve the people with news, views, comments and information on matters of public interest, in a fair, accurate, unbiased, sober and decent manner. Publication of inaccurate, baseless, graceless, misleading or distorted materials should be avoided. All sides of the core issue or subject should be reported.

Every single news and reporting in the media in West Bengal in respect of CPI (M) and the Left Front Govboernment is based on exaggerations, distortions of fact, slanderous campaign, untruthfulness, defamatory, derogatory and misleading imputations, inaccuracy, partiality, unfairness and indecency. If Hitler and/or his Propaganda Minister Dr. Joseph Goebbels were alive, they would have hung their heads in shame and traumatized to see that their successors in the media of the state have reached very far-off surpassing them in all matters of fraudulency, deception, dishonesty, distortion of facts, manufacture and concoction of false & fake news and reports, slanderous campaign, unfairness and what not.

Many people say that today some media are up and doing to lower the coffin of journalism into the grave.

So, their protest against the arrest of a dreaded Maoist on the pretext of ‘blot on their profession’ and attempt to create sympathy in his favour is not only unjustified, unnatural and unacceptable but also antinational.

Mark Twain had very rightly commented to the effect that:

“IT IS A FREE PRESS……THERE ARE LAWS TO PROTECT THE FREEDOM OF THE PRESS’S SPEECH, BUT NONE THAT ARE WORTH ANYTHING TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE FROM THE PRESS.”
